Locofama - A refreshing meal(Part 1)

Locofama is a hidden gem located in Sai Ying Pun, serving mostly locally sourced vegetables and organic food. They provide choices like gluten-free, vegetarian, paleo and protein-rich food which you can see as indicated on the menu next to each item. We had a wonderful and more importantly, healthy meal here.

In this part, we will share about the drinks and starter we had. For main courses, please see Part 2.

We started off our dinner with three refreshing juices.

From left to right, they are Super Hydrator, Daily Glow and Energy Boost($42 each). They were made with a wide range of vegetables, fruits and natural ingredients, including cucumber, orange and honey, etc.

Super Hydrator - contains Coconut Water - GI: 3

✔️High in potassium that improves nerve function

✔️High in magnesium that improves insulin sensitivity

✔️Rich in Vitamin C which is an antioxidant

✔️Improves blood circulation and boosts metabolism

Daily Glow - contains Cucumber - GI: 15

✔️Very hydrating due to its 95% water content

✔️Relatively high content of Vitamin K that helps keep calcium in the bones

✔️Low caloric value and high in fibre, makes it a great food for weight loss

The juices were unfiltered and contained some fibres, the fruits and vegetables chosen were also low-GI, making their GI even lower.

The first food we had was Spicy Spinach Quesadilla($98), with the fillings of cheese, garlic, spinach and chilli, served with black garlic cream sauce.

Spinach - GI: 15

✔️Contains an antioxidant called alpha-lipoic acid that has been shown to lower glucose levels and increase insulin sensitivity

✔️Rich in iron which can prevent hair loss and improve stamina

✔️Great source of beta-carotene that helps prevent asthma

The spinach was cooked with cheese and served with cream sauce which contain a lot of fat that can slow down the digestion and absorption of sugar in the food, lowering the GI of this dish.
